Workplace harassment is defined by California’s Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA) as:

• Quid Pro Quo Harassment: A supervisor offers to exchange sexual favors for a benefit at work, such as a promotion, raise, etc.
• Hostile Work Environment: Harassing behaviors and/or bullying create a hostile work environment for one or more employees.

Harassment, in and of itself, can include any harassment or discrimination based on:

• Race
• Color
• National Origin
• Immigration Status
• Gender
• Sex
• Gender Identity
• Sexual Orientation
• Age
• Veteran Status
• Disability
• Medical Condition

Many types of behaviors constitute workplace harassment, but it is also not limited to a supervisor. California’s labor and employment law recognizes that workplace harassment may be committed by co-workers, supervisors, clients, contractors, vendors, and even customers.
